Ellen Schulte

Ellen began her dance career at the age of 3 in Redfield, SD. It was there, at Johnny Cavelle Dance Studio, that she realized dance would always be one of her largest and ever growing passions. Over the last 24 years, Ellen has studied various styles of dance including ballet, tap, jazz, modern, character/musical theatre, pointe, Celtic, and dance team. During high school, she focused on the Cecchetti ballet technique, receiving honors on her first 5 Cecchetti exams. While studying Checchetti, Ellen attended intensive Cecchetti ballet camps in Holland, MI, where she had the opportunity to work with many esteemed instructors, choreographers, and Cecchetti Council of America members. Ellen continued to pursue her passion for dance in college at South Dakota State University earning a minor in Dance and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Early Childhood Education. At SDSU, Ellen participated in a collaborative performance created by students and faculty in Theatre, Dance, Journalism & Mass Communications, Music, English and the South Dakota Art Museum called “An Evening with Harvey Dunn’s Feminine Images.” In association with the Dance program, Ellen also taught and performed in studio company pieces at the Expanding Harmony Dance Studio. Her love for dance deepened as she gained experience with composition, choreography, and creative movement. Ellen taught Junior High Tap, 2nd Grade Modern, and Creative Movement for Children while at EHDS and worked with diverse groups of children through the ECE program as well. Ellen moved to the Twin Cities area after graduating college and marrying Brian Schulte in June of 2014. She worked in the ECE field as a lead teacher for KinderCare for 2 years. In the summer of 2017, Ellen completed a 200 hour Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training program and is a certified Yoga instructor with the Yoga Alliance. In her spare time, she enjoys taking yoga and fitness classes, gardening, and spending time with family, friends, and her dog, Winston. Ellen is overjoyed to combine her love of dance and working with children as a part of the wonderful staff at Prairie School of Dance.
