This week in America we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day, an occasion to shower our loved ones with special cards, thoughtful gifts and sweet treats of every kind! It is not considered a “Christian holiday” like Easter or Christmas but does have roots in the early Roman church.
(For a quick refresher… St. Valentine was a priest and physician and according to church tradition, Valentine was known for doing good deeds, caring for the poor, and healing the sick. He converted many to Christianity and for this was put in jail. A disgruntled, jealous Roman emperor had Valentine beheaded on February 14th. From then on, Christians and pagans alike have commemorated this day in memory of Valentine’s life of selfless service and ministry.)
We know many of you will be making cards for your loved ones this week. The Bible verses below might inspire your creativity and help bring the focus back to the Author of True Love. Consider sharing a verse even if your card is store-bought! Although Valentine’s Day might not be considered a “Christian holiday”, it definitely gives us a wonderful opportunity to share God’s love and the message of His redeeming grace with others!
And always, always remember…
